Actress, singer, dancer, and activist Lena Horne was born on this day in 1917. Her seventy-year career saw her perform in Hollywood, Broadway, TV shows, and all over the world. In 1943 she starred in the musical film Stormy Weather, based on and starring Bill Robinson. Horne performed the title song and played one of the few substantial roles she was allowed to during the 1930s and 40s.
