Sringa

September 16

This Indian horn, known as a sringa, originated in Kolkata around 1883. Throughout India the sringa is indispensable during marriages and other festive occasions, and during funerals, when its wailing blasts are especially pronounced. In Nepal musicians sounding these horns lead wedding processions and signal a bride's arrival at her husband's home. Sringas also sound harvest festivals in Nepal.
