Composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on this day in 1756. This stage design is for a production of Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni at the San Francisco Opera. In the design, Oliver Smith, a renowned stage designer with plentiful production credits in Broadway, opera and ballet, provides a colorful yet somber, mysterious, and smoky atmosphere for what is likely the opera’s climactic final scene.
