Iranian Kamancheh

The kamancheh is an Iranian bowed string instrument related to the rebab that is used for both folk and classical music. The instrument is also used in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey with regional variations in shape and style. Older and more traditional kamanchehs, such as this 19th century example, use three silk strings, will modern instruments use four metal strings tuned in the same way as a violin.
