Flyer Advertising an Evening with Angela Davis

June 29

Philosopher and political activist Angela Davis has, for decades, been a leading figure in anti-racist, feminist, socialist, and prison abolition movements. She is the author of over ten books on the topics. In 1970, Davis was arrested for her alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a judge and prosecutor in California. She was found not guilty in June 1972. This flyer advertises a June 29, 1972 fundraiser organized by the Angela Davis Legal Defense Fund to celebrate the verdict and to raise money for legal fees and the assistance of other political prisoners. Well-known artists and New York residents Ray Barretto, Pete Seeger, Carmen McRae, and Jerry Butler provided entertainment to accompany Davis’ speech.
