April 4 Born McKinley Morganfield on this day in 1915, Muddy Waters was a blues singer and guitarist from Mississippi who was influential in the development of the Chicago blues style. His heavy electric sound with distorted guitar and harmonica not only influenced urban blues, but also 1960s rock and roll artists around the world.

Description
Jazz and blues legends were honored with the eight 29-cent stamps in Legends of American Music Stamp Series issued on September 17, 1994, in Greenville, Mississippi, at the Delta Blues Festival. The stamps feature Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Jimmy Rushing, Mildred Bailey, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, "Ma" Rainey, and Howlin' Wolf.
Born McKinley Morganfield, Muddy Waters (1915-1983) became the king of the Age of Postwar Blues with his flair for transforming traditional Delta blues into electric blues. In 1948, he began recording a string of Chicago blues hits, including "Rolling Stone," inspiration for Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger.
Howard Koslow designed the images for Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Jimmy Rushing, Mildred Bailey, and Julian Allen designed the images for Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, "Ma" Rainey, and Howlin' Wolf. Ashton-Potter (USA), Ltd., printed The stamps using offset lithography.
