Richard Lerman's "Travelon Gamelon" (1982)

August 19

Californian composer and audio artist Richard Lerman began experimenting with electronic music in the 1960s. In 1982 he released ‘Travelon Gamelon: Music for Bicycles’ through Folkways Records. The album used amplified bicycles to mimic the sound of a gamelon – a traditional Indonesian percussive orchestra. The recordings for the album took place across Boston, Pittsburgh, and Amsterdam.
