Steina Vasulka's "Strange Music for Nam June Paik: Violin Power"

June 15

Visual artist Steina Vasulka initially trained as a classical violinist. In the 1970s she created "Violin Power," a project that weaved the audio signal into the video image, linking sight with sound and outlining a new electronic aural-imaging “syntax.” The video tied the two senses together in a single signal and demonstrated natural assumptions about what is seen and what is simultaneously heard. She updated this project to pay tribute to artist Nam June Paik in 2013.
