Detroit Soldiers Memorial Medal (obverse)

The Detroit Soldiers Memorial Medal honors veterans killed in World War I. The obverse of Paul Manship’s artist’s strike, or sample, shows a winged female figure holding a sheaf of wheat that symbolizes the harvest of souls and the separation of the righteous from the wicked. The Latin inscription reads “Lived, Conquered, Shall Live.”
