- Description
- In Richmond, Virginia, on January 16, 2009, the US Postal Service issued the 42-cent Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) commemorative stamp in a pressure-sensitive adhesive pane of twenty stamps. The stamp honored the 200th anniversary of Poe's birth. Admirers worldwide recognize Poe as one of America's most extraordinary poets and fiction writers. Carl T. Herrman of Carlsbad, California, designed the stamps.
- A total of 30 million stamps were printed in the gravure process by Avery Dennison (AVR), Clinton, South Carolina.
