Description
April 10, 1796, folded letter from the firm of Lang & Hawthorn in Dublin to Philadelphia. Letter carried privately from Dublin by the sailing ship “Action” directly to Philadelphia. The arrival date of the ship at Philadelphia was not marked. The letter entered the US mail system at Philadelphia, where it was marked for postage due of 4 cents, the incoming ship rate to the port.
