Object Details
- Description
- Confederate handstamp Paid cancel on cover with Raleigh, North Carolina, November 27, double circle date stamp, on a buff cover addressed to Forestville, North Carolina.
- After July 1, 1862, the postal rate was changed to ten cents for all distances. The postage for this letter was charged to the sender's post office box as per the notation "Charge Box 165." This probably indicates a late usage in 1864, possibly during a period when the post office at Raleigh had exhausted its supply of stamps.
