Description
Petersburg, Virginia, 5-cent red, Confederate postmaster provisional (CSA Scott 65X1), tied by blue Petersburg, Virginia, March 5, circular date stamp on yellow envelope addressed to Nottaway, Virginia. The envelope contains a letter dated March 1862 and embossed corner card for A. D. Thompson, Dealer in Family Groceries.
The Petersburg provisional stamps were typeset and press-printed on thick white wove paper by A.F. Crutchfield & Co., publishers of the Daily Express.
