- Description
- CSA 5-cent Jefferson Davis (CSA Scott 7) vertical pair, tied by Richmond, Virginia, January 10, 1863, date stamp on semi-official envelope addressed to Greenville, South Carolina.
- The Confederate Postal Act of March 1861 abolished the franking privilege for all except the postmaster general and other members of the Department. Other government agencies were required to prepay postage.
- This Confederate issue, the first to be produced typographically, was engraved by Thos. De La Rue. Ltd., a London, England, firm hired by Postmaster General John H. Reagan to supply the Confederate States with quality postage stamps. These were locally printed in Richmond by Archer and Daly.
