Object Details

Description
The Postal Service issued the Pacific Coast Rain Forest self-adhesive pane of ten stamps in Seattle, Washington, on March 29, 2000. The stamp pane was designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda, Maryland, and illustrated by John Dawson of Hilo, Hawaii.
The Pacific Coast Rain Forest stamp pane was the second in an educational series designed to promote appreciation of North America's major plant and animal communities. The rain forest of the Pacific Northwest is one of the largest remaining temperate rain forests in the world and is considered by some to be the most spectacular. It is an old-growth forest with giant trees hundreds of years old with a very lush understory.
The stamp art, painted by John Dawson, includes twenty-six animal and plant species common to this rain forest and highlights the diversity of life there.
The Banknote Corporation of America, Inc., printed 100 million stamps in the offset process with microprinting "USPS."
