- Description
- The 1990 traditional and contemporary Christmas stamps were issued on October 18, 1990.
- The dedication for the traditional stamp took place at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. The stamp depicts Antonello da Messina's (c. 1430-1479) "Madonna and Child," which is housed at the National Gallery. Designed by Bradbury Thompson, the stamps were issued in panes of fifty stamps and booklets of twenty. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing printed the stamps by the offset/intaglio process.
- The contemporary Christmas stamp dedication took place in Evergreen, Colorado. The stamp features a multicolor cut paper design of a Christmas tree. Designed by Libby Thiel, the stamps were printed on the photogravure press. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing printed stamps in booklet format, and the American Bank Note Company produced the sheet format stamps.
