Byrd Antarctic Expedition II event cover

Object Details

Description
A horizontal pair of Scott 733 is tied to the cover with the cancellation "Little America, Antarctica, Jan 30, 12-M, 1935." The cover has been handstamped with an official expedition cachet in black ink -- two penguins (one delivery U. S. Mail to the other) above the slogan: "Byrd Antarctic Expedition II, Little America, Antarctica. Second Cancellation Mail." The cover was addressed to the donor. See the notation in the UR corner "With best wishes, Paul A. Siple." Paul Siple first ventured to Antarctica as a Boy Scout with Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd's first expedition 1928-1930, and returned again for Byrd's1933-1935 mission.
The verso is backstamped "San Francisco, Calif., Mar. 25, 11-AM, 1935", "Little America Mail Received."
