Notes
ILLUS. PLATE 12, NO. 2 AFTER P. 188 IN BAE BULLETIN 136. FROM CARD: "WORN IN 1932. SEE PHOTOGRAPH CAT. NO. 380092 (OF MAGGIE BILLIE, PHOTO TRANSFERRED TO NATIONAL ANTHROPOLOGICAL ARCHIVES IN 1965). 03-10-1987 LENT TO MISSISSIPPI STATE HISTORICAL MUSEUM, LOAN RETURNED JAN 14 1988."
Albert Naquin, Traditional Chief; Boyo Billiot, Deputy Chief; Chantel Comardelle, Tribal Secretary; and Heather Stone, collaborator; made the following comments during the Isle de Jean Charles Band of Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw Recovering Voices Community Research Visit, October 23-27, 2017. Boyo noted that they used to make almost identical dresses to this for little kids. There was much discussion as to whether this was machine or hand sewn. Ultimately the group decided the garment was machine sewn and the detailing/applique was hand sewn.
