CORALL RUB

Object Details

Description
Cylindrical drug jar with a cobalt blue and red cartouche surrounded by a stylized laurel wreath. On the opposite side is a orange shield. The interior of the shield is marked in black, "CORALL RUB". The shield as well as the mark have been applied with the cold paint technique.
Corrall Rub or Corallium rubrum is a red coral found mainly in and around the Mediterranean Sea. Coral was used for centuries for a variety of ills including but not limited to the reduction of fever, the prevention of bleeding in pregnant women, for gastric pain and to protect infants from convulsions.
