- Description
- Wilson Greatbatch, an electrical engineer affiliated with the University of Buffalo, invented a small battery-powered pacemaker. William Chardack, chief of surgical services at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y., implanted an example in a dog in 1959, and another in a man in 1960. An inscription on this example reads “CHARDACK GREATBATCH / PACEMAKER / MFD BY / MEDTRONIC, INC. / MPLS, MINN. U.S.A.”
