Description
Round, amber glass bottle with black, metal screw-cap. White, dark red, and yellow paper label. Bottle contains 60 red tablets.
Indication/use: "Useful in the management of the menopause, where both physiological and emotional symptoms are present."
The tablets contain (1) Meprobamate, a minor tranquilizer: US Patent US2724720A, 1955-11-22, by Frank M Berger for Carter Products Inc. Meprobamate was marketed as Miltown by Wallace Laboratories (subsidiary of Carter Products) and Equanil by Wyeth;
and (2) Conjugated estrogens, a hormone extract from pregnant mare's urine and stallion urine: Patent US2429398A, 1947-10-21, "... the applicants have prepared a water soluble therapeutic substance containing substantially all the water-soluble oestrogenic activity of the urine of the pregnant mare and of stallion urine and also possessing other biological activity. This substance has high oral activity in the treatment of menopausal conditions, is therapeutically nontoxic, and is stable."
