Description (Brief)
Patent model for a direct current generator. See US Patent # 180082, Magneto-Electric Machine, issued 18 July 1876 to Edward Weston. Claim: Magneto-electric machine having radially-projecting electro-magnets and armatures. Device embodies circular construction with six stationary field magnets (painted green) and six rotating armature magnets (painted red). Iron brackets support an armature shaft. Binding posts on the base. Armature currents are used to excite the stationary magnets, a very early application of this principle. No extant maker's markings.
