English 7-Keyed Flute

Description

This flute was made by an unknown maker in England around 1795 to 1805. It is a 7-keyed flute, made of rosewood with silver ferrules and keys. This flute is stamped:

Charles Saust (1773 – ca. 1845) was born in Ballenstedt, Germany and by the early 19th century had moved to London. Saust was a prominent flute player and teacher, and composed and arranged music for flute. This flute was likely made using Saust’s specifications for sale in music shops.
