Description
A front portrait of Major General Hanson Edward Ely. An oil painting on an illustration board. A white man, Major General Ely has gray hair, blue eyes, and a brown moustache. He is wearing a brown tunic with a U.S. officer collar insignia pins on each side, two stars on his shoulder straps indicating his rank as Major General, and a Sam Browne belt. Major General Ely's signature can be seen in the center of the portrait. The bottom rest of the uniform is not sketched or painted in detail. Some wear and tear on the edges particularly upper left and lower right corners and light staining on the back of the painting.
