- These model 1861 type III dismounted trousers would have been worn by a Corporal in a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Sky blue kersey wool twill trousers with six flat tin four hole buttons at the fly and four buttons around waistband. There are two vertical slash pockets and a watch pocket on the right side of the waist. The trousers are unlined. There is one row of 1/2" yellow tape down the outside seam of each leg. There is a "V" shaped slit and two eyelet holes for waist adjustment at the rear of the waistband. Waist facing and pockets are made of cream colored cotton. There are two circular sizing dots and an oval illegible stamp in the waist facing on the left side. The numeral "21" is printed on the waistband facing on the right side. The trousers are hand stitched with heavy brown thread. There is a one inch slit on the bottom of the outside seam of each leg.
