Pair of First Lieutenant epaulets worn by William T. Sherman

Description
One pair of gold epaulets worn by William Tecumseh Sherman in 1865 when he was serving as a First Lieutenant in the Third Artillery, US Army. The epaulets, made of gold thread embroidery and gold coiled fringe, are ornamented with a raised gold embroidered "3" regimental insignia, although the 3 seems to have been removed from one of the pair.
