Description (Brief)
Shoulder strap worn by John Rutter Brooke when he held the rank of brigadier general in the United States Army. The shoulder strap features a five point star on a black fabric field with gold metallic thread border. Brooke was promoted to brigadier general of volunteers in 1864 and held the rank in the regular army from 1888-1897.
