Object Details

Description
“THEORIA SOLIS PER ECCENTRICUM CINE EPICYCLO” shows the sun in an eccentric orbit around the earth, without epicycles. It is image #16 from the Harmonia Macrocosmica created by Andreas Cellarius (1596-1665), a cartographer and cosmographer in the Netherlands. The “G. Valk et P. SCHENCK” inscription indicates that it is from the republished edition of 1708, and not the original edition of 1660.
