Object Details

Description
This engraving illustrated the “System of Mechanics” article in the second volume of William Henry Hall, The New Royal Encyclopaedia, or Complete Modern Dictionary of Arts and Sciences (London, 1788). The text at bottom reads “Engraved for Hall’s Encyclopaedia, & Printed for C. Cooke, Paternoster Row.” The “Lodge sculp.” signature in the lower right is probably that of John Lodge, a London engraver.
