Model of a Human Embryo

Object Details

Description
This papier mache model of a human embryo was made the Auzoux factory in Normandy, France. The embryo is seen from the right side, showing at the anterior end the beginning of the heart and at the posterior end the commencement of the allantois. The yolk portion of the embryo (the umbilical vesicle) is reduced in size. The Smithsonian bought this in 1895, and probably made the round wood base.
