Object Details
- Description (Brief)
This guiro was made by Latin Percussion Inc. in Garfield, New Jersey, in 1999. It is large metal cylinder with a metal handle, and includes a plastic handled torpedo scraper.
As indicated in an LP brochure from the period, the “LP Merengue Guiro is one of the driving rhythmic forces in a merengue band. This large stainless-steel guiro features a hollow, open-ended design with a tightly textured surface that gives a raspy sound with bright overtones. The LP Merengue Guiro has a coarser, rougher sound than our large LP Torpedo and is significantly louder. The attached metal handle makes it easy to hold in any position.”
