Description (Brief)
Rib spreaders come in several sizes for adults and children. This Gerbode's Modified Buford Rib Spreader would be used on an adult. It is made of non-glare stainless steel and comes with two sets of detachable blades. Reference: Cardiovascular,Thoracic and General Surgical Instruments, (catalogue). Pilling Company, 1979: page 58.
Description
Gerbode's Modified Buford Rib Spreader was designed by Thomas H. Burford (1907-1977), a thoracic surgeon in St. Louis, and Frank Gerbode (1907-1984), a surgeon in California.
