One of the most impactful league executives in the history of American sports, Pete Rozelle (1926-1996) was Commissioner of the National Football League (NFL) from 1960-1989.
Under Rozelle's leadership, the League the expanded, merging with the rival American Football League; began the popular weekly broadcast Monday Night Football and created the Super Bowl, a championship game that routinely draws record crowds of American television viewers.
