- Surgical set with a “J. R. GEMRIG” label in the lid, and a “Dr. C. C. Lee” inscription on a brass plate. Charles Carroll Lee (1839-1893) was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Medical School who served as an assistant surgeon with the Union Army during the Civil War, and later moved to New York City. Jacob Gemrig was a German-American surgical instrument maker in Philadelphia.
