Broadside in support of the "Danville Circular"

Object Details

Description
A letterpress broadside expressing support for the circular letter "Coalition Rule in Danville," commonly referred to as the "Danville Circular." The broadside prints two letters dated October 30, 1883, from Lewis E. Harvie and W. N. Ruffin. At bottom is a certification from notary public R. R. Miller that the signers of "Coalition Rule in Danville" did sign and agree with its contents in his presence. It reads [Read the Proof: The Danville Circular as True as Gospel . . . Read, White Men, and Act!] and urges "our white brethren of the Valley" to "save us from the black wave of ignorance and vice which threatens to overwhelm us." Folds and minor wear.
