- Summary
- Each Apollo spacecraft was equipped with a set of two survival rucksacks. The contents were to be used in the event of an emergency landing in remote areas of the world.
- This clear plastic bag along with an attached mechanism was designed to remove salt from seawater, making the water drinkable. It was part of the survival rucksack 1 flown on the Apollo 15 mission in July/August 1971.
- This desalination bag was transferred from NASA to the Smithsonian in 1978.
