Object Details
- Description
- Painting is one of a set of eight scenes of daily life in Tokyo by Ogata Gekko. This composition focuses on the bridge, Nihonbashi, in the foreground. At dawn, two men carry loads of fish over the bridge as a woman, most likely an entertainer ending her long evening, walks across in the opposite direction. The bird flying overhead is a common motif in ukiyo-e paintings of courtesans. Scroll contained in modern wooden box with lid.
