The Virgin and the Child

Object Details

Catalogue Status
Research in Progress
Description
The Virgin sits upon clouds, with the Child standing beside her. She has her right arm around the child and carries in her right hand a bowl, pointing at it with her left hand. Behind the Child is the globe with a cross on top. Below are the upper parts of a Doric column and a piece of the frieze, and a tablet leaning against it. In front of the tablet stands a pitcher. In the background is a structure with a tower. The sun is visible. This part of the background is framed by the larger part of a circle, the space between it and the outer framing line being hatched. Parts of outline are deeply impressed.
