Description
Landscape sketch showing a view looking south from the artist's property near Hudson, New York, known as Olana. Viewed from an elevated position near the artist's old studio, the scene includes Church's barn and temporary domicile known as the "Cosy Cottage." In the middle distance at center, a twin-peaked hill includes ploughed fields on its near slope. In the background at right, the Hudson River Valley extends into the distance. Above, a large and puffy bank of clouds casts a slight shadow on the landscape below.
Verso: Architecture sketch showing the outlines of three gothic windows with pointed arches. Possibly part of a church or Olana itself.
