- Description
- Landscape sketch showing a view of the Blue Mountains in Jamaica from Galloway Hill near Gordon Town. At right, the broad, rugged mountain ridge descends across the composition to the left. Two smaller prominences are visible in middle distance at left.
- Verso: Mixed studies and notes from Jamaica, with architectural details and a calendar. At left, 4 details of tiles and/or carved wood are visible--two corners of panels, an inscribed trefoil arch, and an oblong pane with a lozenge coffer. At upper center, two partial "FEC" monograms are show. Beside these in upper right corner is a calendar showing dates from August to September, 1865. Throughout lower portion and vertically oriented are two long columns of numbers and tick marks, one labeled "got" that adds up to 51, and another, labeled "not," with a sum total of 60.
