Formerly owned by Sandy Bar Bob (Karuk); collected from him by Grace Nicholson (1877-1948, a California basket collector and dealer) between 1901 and 1916; purchased by MAI from Grace Nicholson in 1916 using funds donated by MAI trustee Harmon W. Hendricks (1846-1928).
