Acquired by Indian Arts and Crafts Board representatives through Stephen M. Richmond (1920-2004, IACB field rep to the Cherokee) in 1964; part of the IACB Headquarters collection (Department of the Interior, Washington, DC) until 2000 when it was transferred to NMAI.
