Formerly owned by Maggie Barney (Zow-Kish-Ko-Quah/Mrs. Paul Whitefish, Potawatomi, ca. 1862-1938); acquired from her in Kansas by Indian art collector David T. Vernon (1900-1973) at an unknown date; acquired by MAI in 1968 through an exchange with the Jackson Hole Preserve, Inc. (a foundation backed by the Rockefeller family), which purchased Vernon's entire collection in 1965.
