Bates (ca. 1841-1909, US Army cavalry officer and Army paymaster); inherited by his daughter Henrietta Bates Brooke (Mrs. Frederick Hiester Brooke, 1878-1967); donated to MAI by Mrs. Brooke in 1960 in memory of her father.
