Collection History
Collection history unknown, but said to have been collected in 1878; formerly in the collection of Edward Waldron Payne (1857-1932, a Springfield, Illinois, artifact collector); inherited by Edward Payne's daughter, Alida Payne Law (Mrs. Samuel B. Law, 1898-1973); purchased by Harold J. Hibben (1881-1956, a noted tomahawk collector) from Alida Payne Law in 1937; inherited by Harold Hibben's nephew, Richard M. Fairbanks (1910-2000, an Indianapolis businessman); donated to MAI by Richard Fairbanks in 1958 in memory of Harold Hibben.
