Collection History
Collection history unknown, but said to have been presented by an English general to a Native ally; acquired by a European collector of antique armor whose collection was sold in 1935; acquired by Harold J. Hibben (1881-1956, a noted tomahawk collector) shortly afterward, possibly through New York City antiques dealer Sumner Healey (1871-1936); inherited by Harold Hibben's nephew, Richard M. Fairbanks (1910-2000, an Indianapolis businessman); donated to MAI by Richard Fairbanks in 1958 in memory of Harold Hibben.
