Collection history unknown; said to have been in the collection of the Van Cortlandt family (of Croton-on-Hudson, New York) for several generations; inherited by Isabel Matthews Mason (Mrs. William Virginius Mason, 1879-1973) and her sister Catherine Van Cortlandt Matthews (1876-1954); acquired by MAI through an exchange with Isabel Matthews Mason and Catherine Van Cortlandt Matthews in 1942.
