Collected in 1879 by Edward W. Nelson (1855-1934, a naturalist with the US Army Signal Corps on board the "Corwin") for the U.S. National Museum (precursor to the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History); acquired by George Heye through an exchange with the US National Museum in 1908.
