Collected between 1879 and 1883 by Newell B. Perkins (1833-1917, a trader at Fort Yates and Standing Rock Agency, North Dakota); inherited by his grandson, Arthur Billings Hunt (1890-1971, a concert singer); lent to MAI by Arthur Billings Hunt in 1930; purchased by MAI from Arthur Billings Hunt in 1958.
