Collection history unknown; formerly in the collection of Michael E. Newbold (1823-1887, a Burlington, New Jersey, artifact collector); purchased by the Free Museum of Science and Art (later the University Museum at the University of Pennsylvania) in 1899 from Michael Newbold's family or estate; acquired by George Heye through an exchange with the Free Museum in 1908.
